Julie L: COASST walk to Hammond: saw few gulls and crows, 1 gbHeron. In the water, a school of maybe 1,000 juvenile perch in Hammond Bay. A big Lion's Mane jelly on the beach, the first I've seen this year in the Pt. Hammond area.

Pam M: I saw what I believe to be a very young sea lion? on the beach between Pt. Hammond and Little Pt. Hammond. (I had been hearing low roars and groans off in the distance). DARN did not have the camera with me. Very dark color, humungous rear flipper/"tail" end in proportion to body, very long narrow front flippers. I was too startled at suddenly coming upon it to take careful mental notes. I circled around as far away as possible, he tracked me with his head the whole time, then when I was way away over some rocks, I looked back and saw him briskly "walking" himself the yard or two into the water.
Pam later learned that this was a Stellar sea lion. There are three breeding colonies in BC, but none known in the San Juans.

Julie L: The ducks have been eating termites, but they seem to be over with. A bat flew overhead in the evening.
