Julie L: At Point Hammond, 1 cormorant, about 20 gulls, many Lion's Mane Jellies in the wrack. At Bare Island, a clamor of birds. In the binoculars, they seem to be gulls, crows, and cormorants wheeling around. On the rocks at Bare Island were 15 lighter lumps, which I'm pretty sure were Harbor Seals, hauled out.

Julie L: We had a pleasant short rain today. For several days now, rats have been walking around, presumably with bots. There are three dead ones lying on our paths, but we think that our cats put them there. Pileated Woodpeckers are noisy in the apple trees.

Dorothy H: At 17:00 she and her kids heard, and then saw a pod of orcas pass between their beach and Skipjack, the sound reverberating between the two land masses.
Julie L: An owl, probably a Great Horned, flew through our yard with a small rabbit in its talons around midday. Later that evening, a juvenile and then an adult called from the trees and we answered. The conversation went on for some time until we remembered our kitten and went inside with him.
Don H: Linda spotted a school of 3 - 4" fish in our cove Sunday.

Camilla L: At sunset, she was kayaking at Severson Cove and saw tens of thousands of small fish jumping near shore.
Someone from Lopez said: at 17:00, a pod of orcas appeared outside of Fisherman's Bay on the west side of Lopez.

Bill A: In the morning, Hallie saw five otters swimming. There were probably two adults and three big young. Their den entry from the beach is just north of our house. We watch them, they watch us. At noon, there were two Kittiwakes in flight about 100 yards off the beach. They had long narrow wings with black tips. Never seen them before.
At Zeo's beach, 15:45, with an outgoing tide, salmon about a foot or more long were leaping about 3 feet high. Really impressive. Something underneath? No sign of an air breather.
Mittelstadt's Beach, 16:15, more (or the same) salmon leaping, same impressive leaps. If they were the same group, they were swimming against the tide.

Don H found a maggot-covered otter in the bushes at the airstrip. He also saw seven live otters making their way down the rocks into Little Otter Cove.
Julie L watched a Cormorant colony on Bare Island.

Barry M and John R saw some Kittiwakes on the channel between Waldron and Saturna. They speculate that Kittiwakes and Bonaparte's Gulls look very similar this time of year. Bonaparte's are looking for termites, which are out in vast numbers at night now. A lot fly out over the beach and water.
